Victoria BC – An early morning VicPD Traffic Section speed trap netted an impaired driver today.

At approximately 10 a.m. Traffic Section officers set up a speed trap on the 3000-block of Blanshard Street when officers pulled over a green SUV traveling almost 75 km/hr. When officers approached the vehicle they could smell liquor on the driver’s breath.

The 55-year-old Delta man admitted to having been drinking the previous night, but assumed because he slept, he was ok to drive.

Two approved screening device tests were performed and the man blew a ‘warn’ on both. His 2002 Ford Explorer was seized and he was issued a three day Immediate Roadside Probation.

“Just because you’ve slept, doesn’t mean you’ve slept it off,” said Cst. Andy Dunstan of VicPD’s Traffic Section.
