File: 12-40544

Victoria BC – Preston Sabbas, a 32-year-old Victoria man, was arrested after a violent, unprovoked attack downtown on Wednesday morning.

Saabas had just left a staff function earlier in the night and was walking down the 700-block of Johnson Street when he crossed paths with the 65-year-old victim. Witnesses state that without provocation, Saabas grabbed the victim and threw him to the ground.

Once on the ground, Saabas kicked and stomped on the victim’s head, chest and legs while screaming at the him until witnesses intervened and he fled east on Johnson Street.

Moments later, officers arrested Saabas at the intersection of Johnson and Blanshard Streets for assault.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is recovering from serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He is set to undergo surgery at a later time.

Saabas was the subject of a tele-bail hearing and VicPD recommended charges of aggravated assault and uttering death threats.

His next court appearance is October 31, 2012.
