Announce Preliminary List of Vendors
With the new Public Market at the historic Hudson Building slated to open in April 2013, the Victoria Downtown Public Market Society (VDPMS) is proud to announce the preliminary list of potential vendors today.

The list includes shops by well-respected local businesses like Silk Road, Salt Spring Island Cheese, and Wildfire Bakery; hot food outlets by amazing local chefs like George Szasz and Cosmo Means (Hot and Cold Café); and great new and emerging businesses like the Island Spice Trade, Tortilleria Monterrey, and Bounty Seafood at the Hudson.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have this combination of well-established local restaurateurs and experienced food-centered businesses mixed with unique and exciting young companies and startups”, says Maryanne Carmack, VDPMS Administrator. “This will create an eating and food-shopping experience unlike anything else in the region”.

Modeled after popular markets like the Ferry Building in San Francisco, the Atwater Market in Montreal and London’s Borough Market, the Victoria Public Market is a food-centered Public Market that will feature farmers' day tables, semi-permanent kiosks with 1-year leases and permanent vendors with 3-year leases. The market will also include a commercial kitchen for cooking classes, special dinners, urban agriculture workshops and special events.

“This food-centered social enterprise will be where the eat local and shop local movements meet, allowing Victoria residents and tourists to eat the best of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands under one roof”, says VDPMS Board Chair Philippe Lucas, “and by eating better, healthier, tastier food we’ll be supporting local businesses and protecting local farms and farmers well into the future.

Hours of operation are expected to be 9:30am – 6:30pm Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30-5pm on Sundays, and closed on Mondays, with larger farmers’ markets every Wednesday and Saturday. For more information, please check out:
