Date: Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Victoria BC – A 28-year-old Sooke man is lucky to be alive after a spectacular crash early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the area of Cedar Hill Road and Hillside Avenue after several witnesses had called 911 reporting a heavily damaged vehicle on the side of the road. Officers arrived and found the vehicle and began an extensive search for the driver, who had left the scene and was obviously injured.
As patrol officers and K9 searched for the man, VicPD’s CRASH team began the process of piecing the collision together. It quickly became apparent that excessive speed was certainly a factor in the collision. The vehicle had sheared off a fire hydrant and the rear passenger wheel and appeared to have rolled numerous times before coming to rest over 150-feet down the road.
Approximately one hour later, investigators were notified by the Provincial Ambulance Service that they had been called to treat a man who had head injuries and may be related to the collision. When officers arrived to speak to the man, they determined that the injured man was in fact the registered owner and driver.
The driver was taken to hospital and treated for his injures and has since been released.
The investigation continues and VicPD has not recommended charges at this point.
