Green and Grey Bins on the way for #yyj
VICTORIA, BC – Victoria residents will start receiving their new green and grey bins this week. Residents are also invited to drop by Kitchen Scraps and Garbage “information stations” when they are out getting groceries during January and February.
Starting this week all households currently on the City of Victoria garbage-only program will be delivered a standard 120L green bin, the size of grey bin that each household selected this past summer (80L, 120L or 180L) and a small "kitchen catcher" for the daily collection of kitchen scraps.
A “how-to” guide for the new kitchen scraps and garbage program, a new collection schedule and sample compostable bags will also be included. All bins will be delivered within the next three weeks. Residents are asked to consult their new collection schedule and should begin using their green and grey bins after their last garbage-only collection day.
Beginning in early February, kitchen scraps and garbage will be collected from backyards, every two weeks and the empty Green and Grey Bins will be left at the front of each property. Keeping kitchen scraps out of the landfill will reduce our waste by 30%.
Residents should watch for information stations at local grocery stores to learn more about the Kitchen Scraps and Garbage program. January dates include:
