VicPD Looking to Identify Driver Involved in Hit and Run of Quadriplegic Man #yyj
Victoria BC – VicPD Traffic Officers are requesting assistance in locating a suspect vehicle that hit a quadriplegic man in a marked crosswalk yesterday breaking his arm.
Officers were called to Douglas and Fort streets yesterday at approximately 2 p.m. for a report of a hit and run involving a man in a motorized wheelchair. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim who stated that he was crossing the crosswalk with the hand signal when a blue vehicle hit him as it turned left onto Fort Street.
The driver then backed the vehicle up and drove around the victim who was left without assistance. Thankfully, numerous passersby stopped to help the victim, but none provided a license plate of the offending vehicle and they had left by the time police arrived. The only description of the vehicle was that it was blue.
It was later revealed that the collision had broken the man’s arm.
Officers will be out today canvassing local businesses for video surveillance and are hoping that anyone who may have seen this collision or can offer any information will call VicPD.
Witnesses can contact VicPD at the non-emergency line of 250-995-7654 or anonymously on Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
